Episode 7: Royal British Legion Industries

In episode 7, Michelle Ferguson, Director of Manufacturing at Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company part of Royal British Legion Industries, discusses the importance of investing in people, technology and create a robust business plan. At the height of COVID, they very early on made the decision to close the factory, so they could put the right processes and facilities in place to make it a safe and a great manufacturing place. Such as creating a Covid-19 action plan, remodelling facilities; that meant changing the entire manufacturing area and putting safety first.

Michelle also discusses the importance of having a robust IT infrastructure. Taking on new technologies allowed them to increase their manufacturing by 90% and improve their service to their clients. She believes that leaning into automation and investment meant that they could be leaner and helped to win new contracts with the NHS.

Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company, part of Royal British Legion Industries. Their manufacturing facilities support Armed Forces Veterans since the darkest days of WW1, when many service personnel returned from conflict needing lifelong care and support. Today, the Estate is a vibrant Veteran community providing accommodation and care for Veterans in a village environment.

Our new commercially viable factory boasts state-of-the-art technology and provides jobs and support to those brave men and women adjusting to life outside the military. Some may be learning to live with an injury or disability, others may need support adapting to civilian life.
